Weekly Scripture Reading: Leviticus 9-21

" You shall be holy to Me, for I the LORD am holy ."

~Leviticus 20:26

As you journey through Leviticus with me today, you will notice that this exhortation comes up again and again. God lays out the laws for the Israelites and as He does, He reminds them again and again that He is the Holy.

This is the demand of anyone who follows God, that they BE HOLY, because God is Holy. What an incredibly high calling! How could we ever live up to it?

Each time I hear this command,

I become increasingly aware of my inability to

live up to this perfect standard.

My heart echos the cry of Paul in Romans 7:24

Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

As we keep reading we will soon see that the Israelites are never able to live up to this calling. They probably felt the same way Paul did in this verse. But God did not abandon them, after 1500 years of failure, Jesus comes on the scene.

Jesus, the only one who can

live up to the command -

"Be Holy for I am Holy."

He lived a perfect live, He fulfilled the command FOR US! Praise Christ! We can now walk in forgiveness for all our shortcomings, but not only that! We also have the gift of the Holy Spirit so that as we too can BE HOLY as GOD IS HOLY!

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

What an incredible gift! The Holy Spirit of God dwelling IN US, so that we may live that Holy Life God has called us too. My heart echos Paul's exclamation in Roman's 7.

Romans 7:25a I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Amen, Praise Christ for the finishing work of the cross that gives us forgiveness for ALL our shortcomings, past, present and future. And praise the LORD for the gift of His indwelling Spirit.

May we all walk in the Holiness Christ has called us to this week, not by our own strength, but by the Spirit of God living in us.
