Weekly Scripture Reading: Genesis 33-50
We finished Genesis this week! The majority of our text covered the story of Joseph, which is one of my favorite Biblical accounts.
A few of the things that encouraged me while reading this week are below:
Genesis 37:5-6 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hared him even more. So he said to them, "Please hear this dream which I have dreamed..."
Joseph wasn't afraid to proclaim the dream and vision which God had given him over his life. Even when it meant he was hated for it. Sometimes God calls us to treasure the vision away in our hearts like Mary (Luke 2:19). But sometimes we are called to proclaim it, even if we are hated, even if it sounds crazy, even when we can't see any way for it to come to pass.
Genesis 50:20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.
This is perhaps one of the most famous scriptures, and rightfully so. It reminds me of the truth we hear echoed in the new testament book of Romans.
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
This time when I read it, I was struck by the truth that Joseph had this faith because He was seeing things from God's point of view. No matter how dark our circumstances we are walking through, God is always looking at down on what we are going through and he knows that He is working it out for good and has a beautiful purpose in it. My prayer is that we all see things more clearly from God's point of view no matter how dark or disorienting our circumstances become.
I hope you enjoy listening to this weeks reading. How did God use it to speak to you?
