Beauty for Ashes
Lady of night, dressed for the life
That you chose, free from your parents' eyes
You were so proud, happy lost in a crowd
Where you could forget yourself, your homeland ties
Now despised
Lost, alone, abandoned and thrown
Down to the earth, your usefulness gone
A taskmaster gave the freedom you crave
Drew you into this cage with no food or song
For so long
Tearless start, caresses your art
Impudent one, half covered in lace
Your heart a deep well of desire, you fell
Your lover's embrace hid the light from your face
Light of grace
Your dreams, not at all what they seemed
Turned quickly, jackals too bold to hide
Your makeshift saviors turned away from you
And, panicked, you clung to their unloving side
Really tried
Child of rage, tear soaked journal page
Spasms grip you, screaming for healing
I've been abandoned by all my friends too
Mistress of grieving, I know what you're feeling
Heart reeling
Please don't fight when I wipe the tears
From your eyes, wracked with sorrows untold
Amidst horrible lies. You fear to hope
But Love has a face; Truth begins to unfold
New from old
Rise from the mire, my heart's desire
Abandon these chains and empty wells
A sacrificed life doesn't lie, my love
The ram's horn is blown, and beyond all these cells
Wedding bells
