Works of Denial

A sad truth.

Scripture tells us that in the last days many, calling themselves Christians, will serve God one minute and indulge in sin the next without batting an eye. These are church going, Bible believing, gospel proclaiming people, who are still lost! They are not saved.

God will spit them out of his mouth...

“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked...Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent." ~Revelation 3:15-19

These are not unbelievers God is addressing - it's a church!

What if this is me? What's the solution?

Repent.

Repent, repent, repent.

That simply means turn back, turn away from sin and back towards Jesus (the one talking in the verses above). Those who reject Christ will be rejected, but those who accept Him as their king will live with Him forever.

Paul said it this way:

"They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work." ~Titus 1:19

We deny God when we're okay with living in our sin.

This is not a works-based salvation I'm advocating. I'm simply echoing the question the Bible asks: where do our affections and allegiances lie? With God or with our sin? Where is our heart, really?

Despite the unpleasant nature of His addressing our sin, we know that God's heart is ultimately for us.

"Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline..." ~Revelation 3:19

May we not be like this unsaved church, LORD! Thank you for loving us enough to point out danger to us.

Let us not hate your correction when we're wrong.
